Boyne's Cypress Mountain To Host Key Events for 2010 Winter Olympics
July 08 , 2003
Boyne Falls, MI - Boyne USA Resorts is pleased to announce the selection of Cypress Mountain as a host venue for the 2010 Winter Olympics to be held in Vancouver, B.C.
Cypress Mountain, purchased by Boyne USA Resorts in 2000, is located just north of downtown Vancouver and the proposed site of Olympic Village. Much time and planning on the part of the Canadian Government and its agencies was committed to the Olympic bidding process and the efforts proved fruitful for both the nation and host resorts. Most notably, the freestyle skiing (moguls, aerials) and snowboarding (halfpipe, parallel giant slalom) competitions will take place at Boyne's Cypress Mountain. Site construction will begin in 2006 which will include modification/expansion of existing terrain, new facilities, and installation of long sought after snowmaking capability. Total infrastructure investment is to be approximately $11 million for the Cypress Mountain project and will be made by British Columbia's federal and provincial governments.
"Congratulations to Vancouver and to our Canadian friends! This is the first time in our 54-year history that one of our operations will host the world's largest sporting event. We are very proud to host the key events in our industry for the 2010 Olympics," said Stephen Kircher, President of Eastern Operations for Boyne USA Resorts.
Cypress Mountain offers spectacular views of downtown Vancouver and English Bay from its numerous downhill and cross-country trails and is well established as Vancouver?s snowboarding destination. The facility enhancements being implemented in the coming years will allow for many regional and World Cup events to held beyond the Winter Games of 2010.
